This page gives more examples, but rather than testing independence of 2 categorical variables, the null hypothesis is that the (conditional) probabilities are the same in different groups — i.e. the rows (or columns) of the contingency table correspond to different groups.

Explain that the mechanics of the test are identical but the conclusions are expressed differently. The diagram shows the χ2 statistic and p-value then gives the conclusion from the test.

Emphasise how the conclusion is reached.
