Although bar and pie charts display the same information, it is easier to read the combined proportion of values in 2 or more adjacent categories from a pie chart. Pie charts are therefore particularly useful when the categories either have a natural ordering or have been ordered in decreasing order of their frequencies (Pareto ordering).
