Telepathy experiment: pick one of three cards

Use this diagram to introduce the randomness of a sample propn (and count) and their distributions. In particular, show:

  • The proportion and count have distns with the same shape, but are differently scaled.
  • The proportion's distribution is centred on π = 1/3.
  • As sample size increases, the proportion becomes less variable.

Take a few random samples to show that the sample propn varies from sample to sample.

Click Accumulate and take more samples to build up the sampling distn.

Increase the sample size and repeat.

Click Show theory and state that it is possible to work out the distribution theoretically. (Binomial)

Experiment where one subject tries to telepathically pass the shape on a card (circles, squares or crosses) to another subject. The diagram simulates such an experiment where the second subject guesses each card, so the probability of picking the correct card is 1/3.
