Application of the concepts to other types of data
We have presented cumulative proportions in the context of a data set with annual rainfalls. Cumulative proportions and the various ways to express them can be applied to a wide range of numerical data sets
Examples
The diagram below again allows you to find cumulative proportions (by dragging the vertical red line) and to express these proportions as percentages and expected numbers of occurrences in a set of further values.
Use the pop-up menu to change the data set.
Note that the 'individuals' are different for different data sets — years, days or farms or coyotes — and that the interpretation of the cumulative proportions uses these. Note also that the units of measurement also differ (length of growing season in days, mm of rain, number of sunshine hours, yield of rice in tonnes per hectare or lengths of coyotes in cm).
