A binomial distribution and its normal approximation

Use this diagram to show that the binomial distribution can be approximated by a normal distribution if n is large and π is not too close to 0 or 1.

Firstly use the sliders to show that the binomial distn's shape becomes nearer to normal as n increases, even when π is small or large.

Explain that the normal approximation has the same mean and sd as the binomial.

Drag over the bar chart's bars to display cumulative probabilities both exactly (top) and from the normal approximation (bottom). Show that they are similar when n is large.
