Sampling from a collection of bags

Many characteristics vary from bag to bag — few bags are identical in all respects.

Some of the bags are damaged when they are checked in. Select Bag state from the pop-up menu on the right to illustrate sampling this characteristics of the bags. Similarly illustrate sampling the Weights of the bags.

We usually abstract by considering sampling of numbers or categories.

Variability of sample statistics

While displaying the Bag state, click Propn(Damaged) to see the proportion of damaged bags in the population and sample. Discuss the sample-to-sample variability in sample proportions and the difference between the sample and population proportions (sampling error).

While displaying their Weights, similarly discuss the variability of the sample mean and its sampling error.
