Getting Help

There are many ways to get help directly within Genstat including Help buttons on each dialog and full documentation in PDF format.

Context sensitive help on dialog windows

Every dialog you open has a  or Help button. Clicking one of these opens a context sensitive help page that explains in detail how to use the dialog.

PDF coursebooks and reference guides

To help you learn how to use Genstat spreadsheets a full PDF coursebook of worked examples is available from the Help menu.

  1. Select Help | Genstat Guides | Spreadsheet.

You can view this online or download the PDF and print it out.

Example data sets to experiment with

Genstat comes bundled with an extensive range of example spreadsheets (and other file types) that you can experiment with before trying out the same techniques on your own data.

  1. From the menu select File | Open Example Data Sets to display the dialog shown below.
  2. Use the Filter by topic dropdown list to display the list of PDF coursebooks, such as ‘A Guide to REML‘. When you select a book name the example data sets that are described and used in that book will be displayed.

  3. Select a file and click Open data.
