Overwriting Level or Label Values

You can add new factor levels/labels to a spreadsheet by typing them directly into a cell and overwriting the original contents. Entering a level or label that doesn’t exist in the factor will open a dialog querying if you want to add a new level/label to the factor, or change the entered value to the closest match. This option is not enabled by default.

  1. To enable this option select Tools | Spreadsheet Options then click the Conversions tab.
  2. Select Allow new factor levels in edit then click OK.

  3. When you edit a spreadsheet factor cell and this dialog appears, click the appropriate button to:
    • Use the text you entered as a new label/level (Add new label).
      OR
    • Use the closest matching factor level/label for the cell value, instead of the text you typed (Use closest).
