MANTEL Test

Select menu: Stats | Statistical Tests | MANTEL Test

Use this to perform the Mantel test to assess the association between similarity matrices.

  1. After you have imported your data, from the menu select
Stats | Statistical Tests | MANTEL Test.
  2. Fill in the fields as required then click Run.

After running, you can save the results by clicking Save.

Available data

This lists data structures appropriate to the current input field. The contents will change as you move from one input field to another, so that appropriate types of data structure are listed. Double-click on a name to copy it into the input field, or type the name in directly.

Y matrix

Specify a the first distance or similarity matrix: the order of the units of this matrix is held fixed

X matrix

Specify a the second distance or similarity matrix: the rows of X are permuted to allow the significance of the correlation between Y and X to be assessed.

Method

Select the type of metric by which to compare the distance matrices. You can choose from Correlation (product-moment correlation), Rank correlation and Mantel (sum(X*Y) – originally proposed by Mantel 1967). If the metric rank correlation is selected, the data are restricted to non-missing units and Spearman’s rank correlation is used.

Number of permutations

Specify the number of permutations of the units in the second distance matrix X on which the significance of the correlation between Y and X is to be based.

Random seed

Controls the random number seed for the permutations.
