Optimizing Updates to the Server for Large Spreadsheets

On the Tools | Spreadsheet Options | General tab the button Optimize updates for large spreadsheets can be used to automatically set options that optimize how large spreadsheets are updated to the server. The following options are set:

Tools | Options (Audit Trail tab)

The Display spreadsheet commands option is turned off. This options writes commands to the input log and can be slow when a large amount of data is updated in the server.

Tools | Options (Save tab)

The Auto save limit to save spreadsheets is set to 1024 KB.

Tools | Spreadsheet Options (General tab)

The option Use fast load for GSH files opened using Data menu is set to Always.
The option Use fast load when updating spreadsheets to Genstat is set to update files greater than is set to 100 KB.

Once the optimized options have been set data from large spreadsheets will need to be manually updated to the server using either the Spread | Update | Changed Data to Genstat menu item or the F10 shortcut key. However, for very large spreadsheets it is recommended that data are updated using the Spread | Update | Using fast load (Save & Close) menu item. This menu item closes the spreadsheet before updating the server reducing the memory being used by the data and subsequently increasing the speed of the update.
