Cell Colours

Select menu: Spread | Column | Cell Colours

Use this to set the foreground text and background colours for cells within a spreadsheet. The default colours used to colour the cells can be set using the Fonts and Colours tab of the Tools | Options dialog. Any cell colouring is stored when a spreadsheet is saved within a Genstat spreadsheet file (GSH and GWB formats) and is reapplied when the file is reopened.

  1. From the menu select Spread | Column | Cell Colours.

Change cell colours for

This dropdown list specifying which cells are to be coloured.

Current cell Colours the cell which currently has focus.
Current row Colours all the cells in the row which currently has focus.
Current column Colours all the cells in the column which currently has focus.
Selection Colours the cells currently selected in a spreadsheet.
Currently coloured cells Colours the cells within the spreadsheet that currently have a cell colour set. This can be used to change the colours of existing coloured cells.
Column by factor Colours the cells in the column which currently has focus using the colours set within an associated factor column.
Rows by factor Colours the cells in rows using the colours set within an associated factor column.
Selected columns by factor Colours the cells within selected columns using the colours set within an associated factor column.

The items that colour cells using an associated factor are only displayed in the dropdown list if the spreadsheet contains one or more factors that have had colours assigned to its factor levels using the Edit Factor Levels and Labels dialog.

Only colour cells included by current restriction/filter

This option is enabled when a restriction/filter has been applied to the spreadsheet. When selected, only the cells in rows included in the filter/restriction will be coloured. You can set restrictions within a spreadsheet using the Restrict/Filter dialog.

Text colour

Specifies the colour for the text within the cell. You can choose from a dropdown list of standard colours or specify a custom colour by clicking User defined.

Background colour

Specifies the colour for the cell background. You can choose from a dropdown list of standard colours or specify a custom colour by clicking User defined.

When cells are being coloured by using an associated factor column then a list of factors that have colours assigned to their levels will be displayed in a dropdown list. This list also contains an item called which can be used to remove colours previously set using an associated factor.

Sample

This displays some text using the currently chosen text and background colours.

Example

The spreadsheet shown below shows an example of cells coloured within a spreadsheet. The column called Day has had the text for all the cells within the column set as red. Other cells within the spreadsheet have text and background colours set to highlight particular values in their columns.

Action buttons

Set Set the colours for the selected cells and close the dialog.
Clear Clear any colours for the selected cells and close the dialog.
Clear all Clear any colours for all cells in the spreadsheet.
Cancel Close the dialog.
Help Open the Help.
