Add Trial Column

Use this dialog to add a new typed column to a trials spreadsheet. The name of the column is defined by its type and cut. Further meta data such as date, sample area cut and a comment can also be added.

Type

The type of data in the column. Select the type from the drop-down list. The column types are defined using the Edit Column Types dialog.

Cut number

The number of this column in the sequence of columns of its type. By default, this will be the next number in the sequence. However, columns can be added into the middle of the sequence by using the date of the column to assign it a position. The date will be checked to make sure the cut number is a valid sequence number.

Plots in sowing order

If this item is ticked, the spreadsheet will be sorted into the sowing order, rather than the default plot order. This is to allow the data in the column to be entered in sowing order.

Name

This field is automatically created from the column’s Type and Cut number.

Date

The date when the data was taken. This should be entered in the format d-mmm-yy, e.g. 12-Feb-23. The Season of the column will be selected automatically from this date. The seasons are defined with the Define Seasons dialog. The date is automatically put into the Descriptions field, but the description can be changed to something else after the date has been entered.

Description

A column description to be shown in the second line of the column heading. This is initially set as the column date, but it can be edited later.

Sample area cut (m2)

The area of the plot taken for this measurement in square metres. This can be used later, to convert the measurement to a per hectare basis, using the Change Units dialog.

Season

This displays the season of the column. This is set automatically from the Date.

Comment

A single line text that records any comments about the column.
